Host multi-country conference calls. Our conferencing bridge is located in the U.S. but the
moderator can initiate a conference call from any country.
Enable geographically diverse international offices
to join conference calls to provide
input on issues that affect their regions.
Holding an international conference call is nearly
identical to holding one inside your own country using a conferencing service. In both cases, all participants
dial a phone number, enter a PIN number, and join the call. However, with an international conference calling service,
each participant will dial a phone number that is local to their countries.
Conducting Global Conference Calls
It is possible to hold international conference calls
in Belgium with minimal fuss Ė even if you have participants scattered around the world. First, letís look at how
you might hold a conference call with participants inside of Belgium:
If you have a PBX with conferencing
capabilities, youíd likely ask your participants to call in directly using your regular business phone number or
your businessís toll free number.
If you donít have conferencing capabilities, you might use a conference calling service that provides a Belgian
phone number for your participants to use to join the conference.
While both options work well for participants within Belgium,
they donít work well for international attendees. First, many will balk at dialing a Belgian phone number, especially
if they live in a country with high international calling rates. Second, they canít dial your toll free number;
it wonít work internationally.
Depending on how you set up the international conference call, this number may be a local phone number or it may
be a toll free number. If itís a local phone number, for example an Italian number for your participants in Italy,
your participants may incur long distance charges based on where they are located in relation to the phone number.
That said, the costs they incur are likely to be much lower than if they had dialed internationally.
If you choose to use toll free access numbers for each country involved in your global conference call, your participants
can dial with confidence. Theyíll immediately recognize the access number as being a legitimate toll free number,
and dial without concerns about potential calling costs. As the host of the toll free Belgian international conference
call, youíd be billed low international rates on a per minute, per caller basis. Rates vary by country and phone
type but are extremely competitive.
Another option is to use the moderator ďdial outĒ tool to
automatically dial participants in countries located outside of Belgium. This feature is often used for participants
in countries without toll free support or where international rates are cost-prohibitive.
International conference calls can be hosted anywhere in the world including from Belgium. Our international conferencing
plans are available on a pay-as-you-go basis with no monthly fees, no minimums, and no contracts. With low international
toll free conferencing rates, no commitment, and exceptional call quality, you canít go wrong. A wealth of features
such as moderator dial-out, live conference viewer, MP3 recordings, and 24/7 operator assistance make our international
collaboration even better.
According to the CIA World Factbook, Belgium has an advanced,
highly developed, and fully automated telecommunications system. Internationally, Belgiumís telecommunications
system serves as the landing point for several submarine cables linking to Europe, the Middle East, and Asia. It is also
home to 7 satellite earth stations.
Domestically, its telecommunications system makes use of an extensive cable network, nationwide mobile networks,
and limited microwave radio relay network. As of 2012, Belgium had about 4.6 million landlines in use and another
12.88 million mobile cellular subscribers.
As of 2009, Belgium ranked 36th in the world for Internet users (8.113 million) and 21st in the world for Internet
hosts (5.192 million). High speed Internet access first arrived in Belgium in 1999 with ADSL. Belgacom established
the first network and its subsidiary, Skynet, became the first ADSL provider. Since then, more operators have enterd
The Belgian Institute for Posts and Telecommunications (BIPT) serves as the regulatory authority for telecommunications
in Belgium. Created in 1991, BIPT is a semi-governmental body that regulates the electronic communications market,
the postal market, and media in the Brussels-Capital region as well as manages the electromagnetic radio frequency
spectrum. As far as the telecommunications sector goes, BIPT is responsible for promoting competition, protecting
consumersí interests, and contributing to the development of the internal market.
As of early 2015, BIPT listed 25 pages of telecom operators in Belgium. Clearly, competition is robust. Some of
the dominant fixed network operators include: Belgacom, COLT Telecom NV, Mobistar, Scarlet, Telenet, and Tele2
Belgium. Some of the larger mobile operators in Belgium include: Proximus, Mobistar, Mobile Vikings, Base, Telenet,
Ello Mobile, and Scarlet.
