Reuniones de Telefónica Global con Chile
- The Republic of Chile is a long, narrow country
stretching down the lower western coast of South America between the Andes Mountains and the Pacific Ocean.
As one of South America's most prosperous and stable countries, Chile is a leader in terms of economic freedom,
per capita income, peace, competitiveness, human development, globalization, and perceived lack of corruption.
The official language of Chile is Spanish with 99.5 percent of its population speaking it.
10 percent of Chileans also speak English.
As of July 2014 estimates by the CIA World Factbook, Chile has a population of 17,363,894, placing it in 65th position
compared to other countries in the world.
Telecommunications in Chile
As of 2012, Chile had 3.276 million
main telephone lines in use and 24.13 million mobile cellular phone subscribers. As with many other countries,
the number of landline telephone connections has been overtaken by a preference for mobile phones. Mobile cellular
tele density has reached 130 mobile phones per 100 people.
According to the CIA World Factbook, privatization of Chile's telecommunications system began in 1988. Chile has
the most advanced telecommunications infrastructure in South America, consisting of a domestic satellite system
and extensive microwave radio relay facilities.
Chile is connected internationally via several submarine cables and two satellite earth stations. As of 2012, Chile
had 2.152 million Internet hosts, and in 2009 it had just over 7 million Internet users. Figures by the International
Telecommunications Union reveal that in 2012, 61.42 percent of Chile's population used the Internet - the highest
rate of adoption for all of South America.
The Telecommunications Market
in Chile
The Ministry of Transportation and
Telecommunications, through the Undersecretariat of Telecommunications (Subtel), serves as the technical regulator
of communications in Chile.
Chile allows full competition throughout its telecom sector, making it one of Latin America's most open telecommunications
markets. Chile's open and modern telecommunications sector attracts investors. According to Export.gov, over the
last decade, Chile's telecommunications sector grew an average of 20 percent each year. The telecommunications
sector is expected to continue to grow at a rate of about 15 percent each year.
In addition to preferring mobile cellular phones over landlines, Chileans are increasingly looking to mobile Internet
access. Smartphones and 3G networks are popular throughout Chile.
According to Budde.com's report on Chile, Chile's information and communications technology sector is following
a "digital agenda," the Agenda Digital Imagina Chile 2013-2020, which sets out strategy and initiatives
throughout 2020 designed to enable telecom access for the nation.
Telecommunications Providers
in Chile
With its open telecommunications
market, Chile is home to numerous telecommunications providers. One of the largest is Empresa Nacional de TELecomunicaciones
(Entel). Entel started as a government-owned company offering data transmission, communications, and long distance
services. Privatization began in the late 1980s and concluded in 1992. After privatization, the company was licensed
to offer domestic services including cellular and landline services as well as Internet. Entel PCS is one of 6
mobile operators in Chile, with about 40 percent of marketshare.
Other major telecom providers in Chile include: CMET, Gtd Manquehue, Gtd Telesat, Rural Telecommunications Chile
S.A., Telefónica, Telefónica del Sur, Claro HFC, Claro (América Móvil), Movistar, and
Nextel.
International Conference Calls in Chile
- As modern and affordable as Chile's telecommunications
system may be, one area that remains a challenge for Chilean business professionals and citizens alike has to do
with making international conference calls.
For
example, when issued a European, Asian, North American, African, or Australian phone number for a global group
call, many Chileans hesitate to participate due to concerns about international calling costs. Some may need assistance
in dialing an unconventional appearing phone number.
Similar concerns exist for international callers trying to join a global conference call hosted in Chile.
The answer to both of these problems is to use an international conference calling service designed specifically
for global conference calls.
These services work by providing true international conference calls, complete with international access numbers
unique to dozens of countries. For example, if you're in Chile and need to join an international conference call,
you would be given an access number local to Chile. If you're in Santiago, you'd dial a Santiago access number
and your call would then be connected to the teleconference.
Meanwhile, your colleagues in Brazil would dial a Brazilian access number while those in France would dial a French
access number. No matter which number you dial, all of you would be joined into the same global group call.
Toll free access numbers are also
available, further alleviating concerns about cost. Again, these international toll free access numbers are specific
to each country. As with any toll free number, the account holder chooses to incur the cost of the call. Rates
vary based on the countries and phone types involved.
If you have participants in high-cost countries, you can often get a lower per minute rate by taking advantage
of a feature known as "moderator dial out." With this feature, you can preprogram the numbers and have
the international conference calling service automatically dial them at the conference call's start time.
International conferencing is an affordable way to connect a group using traditional phone networks. Pay-as-you-go
plans are available, providing you with the ultimate in flexibility without any contracts or commitments. Our international
conference calling plans are also loaded with must-have features such as exceptional call quality, dial out, MP3
recording, 24/7 operator assistance, live conference call viewer, and more.
Whether you're based in Chile or have participants in Chile, signing up with an international conference calling
