VoIP works just like the Telephone
- VOIP works just like the telephone you have in
your home today.
You pick up the phone, dial the number and it connects to whom you're calling. In more technical terms VOIP uses
a phone adapter to convert your voice from an analog signal to a digital signal.
The digital signal then can be sent over your high speed Internet connection because it is recognized as data and
then is sent over the Internet. When someone calls you, they dial your number.
Behind the scenes, your number looks very much like an e-mail address. This number instructs the call to travel
over the Internet and through your Voip providers network to the phone adapter, your phone rings, and all you have
to do is pick up and answer it.

VoIP or 'IP Telephony' or broadband phone ?
- VoIP, treats voice like data, breaking a conversation
into tiny packets of data and shipping them over a network like the Internet.
That’s why it’s sometimes referred to as “packet-switched”. The industry can’t make up its mind on exactly what
to call it, so VoIP is sometimes referred to as IP Telephony or broadband phone, short for Internet Protocol Telephone.
Because VoIP calls are converted to data, they can be transmitted over all types of data networks.

Is VoIP a replacement for your current phone system ?
- VoIP – short for Voice over Internet Protocol
– will eventually replace our current phone system, according to most experts.
With traditional phone technology, a direct circuit is opened between two calls. That’s why the system is often
referred to as “circuit-switched”.
A high-speed Internet connection (also known as broadband) is the connection to your home or office that provides
fast access to the Internet. These connections can be DSL, Satellite or Cable Modem.

Internet Calling - What Is It ?
- An Internet phone service or VoIP calling plan
uses the Internet, instead of old-fashioned phone lines, to send voice. In most cases, you just plug your current
telephone into a small box that your Internet phone company provides you with when you subscribe.
The box, in turn, plugs into your broadband connection. Just as with regular telephone service, you pick up the
phone to get a dial tone and press numbers on the keypad to call the person you want to talk with. And as with
a regular telephone, you can call anybody in the world who has a phone.
