Communicating with People in Bahrain using an International Conference Call

Unlike a domestic teleconference, global conference calls have participants from around the world — all with potential concerns about how to dial an international phone number and how much the toll charges will wind up being.

Traditional conferencing services aren't set up to handle the complexities of connecting callers from around the world, making them a poor choice when participants reside outside of the country.

Fortunately, international conference calling service providers exist that specialize in connecting callers from around the world into a crystal clear audio conference. International toll free and/or local access numbers are available for more than 100 countries.

Your callers in Bahrain, for example, would receive a local access number such as 1616 xxxx while your callers in Los Angeles, California might dial a 310-xxx-xxxx number. Meanwhile other US-based callers might dial a US 800 number while those in France dial a toll free number that works from France. Regardless of the actual access number dialed or originating country, all callers will be connected into the same group audio call.

International conferencing plans are available on a no-contract basis, making them ideal for businesses and individuals who do not want to get trapped into a long-term commitment or pay monthly fees.

Simply pay for the minutes you use and that's it. International rates are competitive and the service is extremely reliable. These plans include numerous features, such as call recording, live operator assistance, on-demand conferencing (reservationless), and moderator dial-out, designed to make your international conference call a success.

Callers from Bahrain and other countries can access your Bahrain conference call from any phone including landlines, mobile phones, and Skype.

Sign up for a free account and start connecting with your colleagues in Bahrain — and beyond — in a high quality international group audio call. There's no risk, no commitment, and no minimum usage requirements.

About Bahrain

A small island nation located in the Persian Gulf, the Kingdom of Bahrain is home to just over 1.3 million people. As with many Persian Gulf countries, Bahrain has a rich history and an abundance of natural resources (oil). The country has the region's first post-oil economy with heavy investments in finance and tourism. Its economy is considered a "high income" (gross national income per capita above $12,746 in 2013) economy by the World Bank.

As of mid-2014, Bahrain had an estimated population of 1,314,089. According to UN data, almost 55 percent of Bahrain's population consists of immigrants.

In 2012, it had 290,000 main line telephones in use and over 2.12 million mobile cellular phones. The CIA World Fact Book reveals that Bahrain's telecommunications system is a modern fiber optic system with integrated services. The country's digital network has experienced rapid growth in mobile communications. In 2009, Bahrain had 419,500 Internet users which puts the nation's Internet adoption rate down at 122 compared to the rest of the world.

Bahrain serves as a landing point for the FLAG (Fiber-Optic Link Around the Globe) submarine cable network. FLAG connects Bahrain to the United States, Asia, Europe, and the Middle East. Other telecom links include a satellite earth station, microwave radio relay to Saudi Arabia, and tropospheric scatter to United Arab Emirates and Qatar.

Bahrain Telecommunications

In 1981, the government established the Bahrain Telecommunications Company (Batelco), marking the beginning of the government's monopoly over the country's telecommunications services. At the time, there were about 45,000 telephone lines in use. Within a year, that number grew to 50,000. A few years later in 1985, fiber optic cable was installed. Up until 2002, Batelco served as a monopoly in both the fixed-line and mobile sectors.

Bahrain ultimately bowed to international pressure in 2002 and enacted its telecommunications law. This law established the Telecommunications Regulator Agency (TRA), an independent regulatory authority.

A year later, the monopoly ended when MTC Vodafone (now Zain) was issued a license to operate in Bahrain. Kalaam Telecom launched in 2005 and is fully licensed in Bahrain. Kalaam Telecom specializes in offering telecommunications services to business customers. Another operator, VIVA, entered the Bahrain telecommunications market in 2010.

Other telecommunications service providers operating in Bahrain include: Etisalcom, Rawabi, Elephant Talk, Neutel, 2Connect, Lightspeed, Royal Court, Kulacom, Rapid, and Menatelcom.

Bahrain's Telephone Numbering System

Generally speaking, most Bahrain telephone numbers are 8 digits long. Bahrain does not use area codes. However, two digits (those immediately following 1) in a landline's prefix are city or region specific. All landlines start with the number 1 while mobile cellular phones typically start with 3, 663, or 669*. Bahrain's country code is 973.

A typical Bahrain landline phone number would look like this: 1616 ####. If you are outside of Bahrain and would like to dial that example number, you'd need two more important numbers: Bahrain's country code (973) and your country's specific international access code which connects you to an international telephone circuit (for example, the US international access code is 011). Thus, a caller from the United States would dial: 011-973-1616-####.
