Utilities Commission since the Commission was established in 2004. Legislation enacted in 2004 ended the former
monopoly Cable & Wireless held in Anguilla.
Cable & Wireless has been operating in the island since 1971 and continues to do so offering phone, cellular,
data and Internet services, toll free phone service, phone cards, and other telecommunications services. Cable
& Wireless purchased Columbus Communications in 2014 and is offering additional services under the brand name
FLOW. Cable & Wireless's LIME brand is effectively being replaced by FLOW.

About Anguilla
Located in the Caribbean as part of the Leeward Islands in
the Lesser Antilles, Anguilla is a tiny island with a land area measuring just 35 square miles. Anguilla has been
a British dependency separate from Saint Kitts and Nevis since 1980.
According to CIA World Factbook's 2016 population estimates, the island is home to 16,752 people. With few natural
resources, Anguilla's economy relies on luxury tourism, offshore incorporation and management, offshore banking
(Anguilla is a tax haven due to its lack of taxation on individuals and corporations alike), lobster fishing, and
remittances. The construction industry, largely fueled by increases in tourism, has seen some growth, too.
Anguilla is also working on solar power initiatives, with a goal of obtaining 15 percent of its energy from solar
power. The Anguilla Renewable Energy Office has been working on sustainable energy initiatives for several years
and has issued both an energy policy and a draft climate change policy.
Telecommunication Statistics in Anguilla
According to CIA World Factbook, as of 2015, Anguilla had
a total of 6,000 main line telephone subscribers for a fixed line tele density of 37 per 100 inhabitants. Its mobile
cellular numbers are much higher with 26,000 subscribers in 2015, which puts its mobile cellular tele density at
158 per 100 inhabitants.
All of these phone subscribers benefit from Anguilla's modern internal telephone system. Anguilla is the landing
point for the East Caribbean Fiber System submarine cable. This cable provides links to more than a dozen islands.
A microwave radio relay connects Anguilla's telephone system to Saint Martin.
About 12,000 people, or 76 percent of the population, in Anguilla had Internet access as of July 2015 estimates.
