Packet8 Phone Numbers Now Available
in Over 1,500 United States Rate Centers.
8x8, Inc. (Nasdaq: EGHT), originator of the Packet8 Broadband Phone Service, is one of the industry’s leading VoIP
(voice over internet protocol) and videophone communications service providers.
Since its establishment in 1987, 8x8 has contributed to the advancement of voice and video communications on both
technology and service provision levels. The company currently holds 49 United States patents with additional patents
pending.
SANTA CLARA, Calif. (April 28, 2003) - 8x8, Inc. (Nasdaq: EGHT) today announced the availability of Packet8 voice
and video phone numbers in over 1,500 rate centers in the United States. The new rate centers further expand the
availability of phone numbers that can be assigned to a Packet8 voice or video communications subscriber.
Launched in November 2002, Packet8 enables anyone with high-speed internet access to sign up for VoIP Internet
telephone service. Customers can choose a direct-dial phone number from any of the rate centers offered by the
service, and then use an 8x8-supplied telephone adapter (the 8x8 Desktop Telephone Adapter model DTA310 manufactured
by 8x8 and included with the service) to interface any regular telephone to the customer's internet connection.
Calls can then be made and received from the telephone connected to the DTA310, anywhere in the world where the
adapter is installed, using the direct-dial phone number supplied by the Packet8 service.
The company has also recently announced a pilot program for the new Packet8 DV325 plug-and-play desktop videophone
which also uses a customer's Packet8 direct dial phone number.
While Packet8 subscribers can call any PSTN phone number in the United States and Canada for one flat monthly rate,
as well as any other Packet8 subscriber anywhere in the world, it is important that they choose a Packet8 phone
number from a rate center that is local to the people who call them the most.
Phone numbers in the new rate centers are available now. A list of the Packet8 rate centers available can be found
here. Existing
subscribers will be allowed to change their existing Packet8 phone number to a direct dial number in a different
rate center at no additional charge.
